Here’s a conversion I did on a similar looking 1940 Elto Evinrude Handitwin
using OMC universal coils. Runs good.
Careful planning to see if it’s possible on your motor recommended.

It seems to be a common coil and was used in a myriad of motors back in the day. A good replacement shouldn’t be too hard to find.

OK… good, now we are on the right track.  Not to presume, but there is a possibility that Donald can find and attach new spark plug wires to the coil. Do not attempt to “screw” into the coil. Some careful probing may uncover the termination of the very fine secondary winding. Normally that fine copper wire is terminated to a short piece of braded wire or a tab of copper. If you can find that or the actual end of the coil wire, carefully solder an attachment tab, secure and wrap the repair area so that nothing moves.

Although it would be a good idea to test the continuity of the secondary winding to ensure that it is good, before investing too much time. On this type of coil, test continuity from one spark plug wire lead to the other,, should be about 6,000 to 7, 000 ohms

He asked … “was wondering what you used on your motor for the white contac”

I’m guessing that you are asking about the white capacitor that shows on Bucc’s motor… Looks like a modern foil capacitor?

A 4158 model is a 1936 2.5 horse Handitwin and the capacitor (condenser) for it should be rated at 0.10 uF (microfarads).  These Vishay caps from Digi-Key will work well.

Here is another possible solution for you to choose from.
You remove the laments from your old coil and resize them
to replace the ones in the new coil. Will provide you with
more info if you should decide to go this way.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
