Hi
Has any one ever been successful in drilling out the tip of a low speed needle that was broken off in the body of the carb?
If so what sized drill bit would be used to do it?
Thanks
January 19, 2023 at 12:10 pm #271431you may try to pop the top….. dime size plug the needle tip may be sticking out of the low speed orifice and you can try to gently push it back out .
it will give you a chance to inspect the LS drip holes (3) in the upper LS schamber of the carb

January 19, 2023 at 12:32 pm #271433If that doesn’t work, on some I have drilled a hole into the chamber, opposite the broken needle tip for a more direct path to poke it out. Plug your new drilled hole afterwards.

I did pop of the little cap and can see the broken tip, but can not push it back out. The fellow must have cranked it in good. I guess I have nothing to lose in trying to drill it out like Frank said. Wont work as it is now, so might as well give it a shot.
Appreciate the replys.

January 19, 2023 at 3:29 pm #271441I was able to get one out once after soaking with a little something and then using the right angle pick of the stiffer variety. You could even grind the tip flat to help keep it from sliding off the needle tip when pushing it back out from inside the chamber. Also I got your nylon washers in the mail today, in an envelope, 1st class to Canada, so however long it takes from N.Y. to Ontario…probably not too long.

January 19, 2023 at 3:59 pm #271444Thanks Steve for the washers.
I do have one of those picks around here so I will give that a try.
Very nice folks on this site.

January 19, 2023 at 8:36 pm #271461I would never try to drill it out. You would ruin the carb for sure.
January 20, 2023 at 10:07 am #271467Get everything ready, core plug out, picks and maybe a small flat screwdriver and then heat the body of the carb with a propane torch. It would not take much heat, but enough to cause the carb body to swell enough that you might be able to push the needle tip back out of the carb. I have done this before with success.
