Apparently 1.5-3hp…just haven’t heard of one of these before…
Manufacturer…year(s)?
January 8, 2016 at 3:47 am #29790Store branded, Gale produced. Forget who sold them, but they are an OMC product. 5 hp was available too. Edit: Here you go Johnnyrude, Spiegel catalog offering 😉
January 8, 2016 at 4:08 am #29792by the name, I figured it was a store brand re-brand, and suspected it was an OMC. Interesting how it’s a 2-degree separation 😎
January 8, 2016 at 9:27 pm #29832Wasn’t it Spiegel stores or catalogs?
January 8, 2016 at 10:51 pm #29838When I was a little kid, Ma always had the latest Spiegle catalog on hand. I think that’s where we got most of our clothes. The ones that weren’t hand-me-downs, that is. She never did get us an outboard. Dad did get a Firestone motor.
January 8, 2016 at 11:32 pm #29841I own one. Mine is the 13th one made (150).. They were only made for about 6 months and abandoned for bigger profit from the 3 (300) , 5 (500) and etc. 1950-1958 Spiegel sold some Neptunes pre 1950. Spiegel also bought an auto parts place , prominent in the Midwest called J & R Auto Supply and sold all the motors thru them. I am putting an extensive collection of information together about all the Gale motors and especially the little guys , 1.5 HP. This includes advertising , catalogs, sales brochures, , newspapers , etc. I will submit it to AOMC down the road. PS they made some interesting upgrades for the 1,5 HP (150) Brooklure unlike all other 1.5 HP Gales.
January 8, 2016 at 11:41 pm #29845Amazing what a conversation this can spark, all over a bunch of NOS shear pin packs I picked up. I saw this listed for one of the packets and knew this was the right place to ask about it!
January 8, 2016 at 11:45 pm #29846I thought I bought them all up? Olson #1 ? You can make them up with brass rods, obtained @ Loews. It appears everybody likes those big guys and my dream this summer is to strap three of them on my Grumman Sport Boat !!
January 8, 2016 at 11:51 pm #29848You guessed it! Picked up a box with a variety of these packs; will be bringing them down to the next Yankee Swap meet for folks to enjoy. They belong in the right hands, not in a dumpster where they usually wind up!
January 9, 2016 at 4:40 am #29869Standard Gale Products line . . . 😀
