I haven’t used the Loctite brand sealer but I have used the Permatex Aviation Sealer in a pinch and don’t really like it much. The BRP sealer is hard to find now so I’ve switched over to the easier to find Mercury/Quicksilver Perfect Seal which is similar to the BRP stuff.

January 31, 2021 at 2:18 pm #229191Jim,
The Merc stuff sounds good. Will try a can of their Perfect Seal.
I have always liked Mercury chemicals since 1970 when I bought my Mercury 135HP inline six that is in my avatar. I swear by their Storage Seal to layup my motors for the long upstate NY winters.
Bob DJanuary 31, 2021 at 2:56 pm #229192I agree on the Perfect Seal
January 31, 2021 at 5:50 pm #229212Yeah, I tried the permatex equivalent to the OMC gasket sealer, seems like a watered down version of their “form a gasket” sealer. I will look for the Merc sealer in the future..
January 31, 2021 at 7:41 pm #229215I’ve used permatex aviation for years rebuilding air cooled vw engines. Never had any issues. I have the replacement loctite sealant which I will use now.
February 1, 2021 at 10:51 am #229225Will the perfect seal work on a exhaust housing gasket for the 7.5 omc or is the 3m scotch weld 847 ok to use Thanks Russ…
February 1, 2021 at 12:06 pm #229226I just ordered some of the Locktite stuff but haven’t tried it yet. Mercury Perfect seal is hard to find, though Amazon has it for $37 for a 16oz can – liquid gold!
