I went to my boat storage shed to find a good winter project. I dug out a 1957 Wizard Super 25. I performed a compression check to see if it was worth fixing up and each cylinder checked to be 120psi. So it hopped into the bed of my truck and is now in the shop. From it overall condition, I suspect it is a very low time motor. Here is a picture of my project.
December 2, 2016 at 4:14 pm #48402Someday….but with about 15 motor projects…..ugh……LOL
Fortunately, I, like the Master Craftsman Chris Scratch, have an abundance of motors that need parts actually made to get them going again.mid 20’s Caille Liberty Single, needs crank repaired, new upper crank bushing, ( lower is done) and flywheel repair ( machine and install a new hub), and timer points rebuilt.
mid 20’s Caille RBM w/ 5 speed lower unit, needs new upper and lower crank bushings, and new bushings in the gear case, already have a new prop shaft, I made it 🙂 )
mid 20’s Caille Liberty twin, really ugly, needs cleaned up and water pump gone thru..
1913 Evinrude, repair tank, ( remove dents, repaint)
on top of all the repair work and making other motors pretty for others…I need 6 months of winter..LOL

December 2, 2016 at 6:51 pm #48411We have quite a few projects on the docket for this winter. I am not sure the order I am going to attack them is yet. I will probably be doing two or three at the same time so I switch back and forth as parts and supplies are needed and acquired. These are in no particular order:
1) 1955 Mk-25 complete restoration
2) 1951 KG-7 complete restoration
3) 1949 KF-7 project "Greased Lighting" (need KF-7 – Mk-20 co-pilot #20951 😉 )
4) 1948 KE-7 complete restoration
5) 194? KE-7 complete restoration (need a scintilla rotor for KE-7 magneto and some other items 😉 )
6) 1952 KH-7 complete restoration
7) 1964 Mercury 200 (basket case, need lower unit,)
8) 1968 Mercury 110
9) 1968 Mercury 110
10) 1969 Mercury 110
11) 1965 Mercury 200 complete restorationIf I can get half of these done, I will be doing great! I also have others that I need to finish or do some small work to, and these will most likely be getting done at the same time
1) 1953 Mk-20 Finish, but have been having magneto issues.
2) 1953 Mk-20 Finish, I have it running and ready for the boat test, but we ran out of time.
3) Project 50:1 Need to modify the water pump cover to figure out why I loose water above idle speeds.
4) 1964 Mercury 200December 2, 2016 at 7:24 pm #48412I might be tempted to leave this nice warm winter weather in Florida and go up north and suffer the dredging cold with you guys a few years if I could find a few nice "old" motors like you find Chris 😎
quote PM T2:Planning on finishing this one up, 1914 Lockwood-Ash that needs a repair on the crankshaft, new muffler can & end cap, and the gas tank needs straightening…hope to refinish this one and get it painted all the right colour, early Evinrude rowboat motor with no skeg and smooth bullet nose lower unit
got some of these cast in silicon bronze as well as ductile iron, so expect to be machining up a couple of them. One is going to be fore a 1912 Evinrude crankcase, all I have is the crankcase and crankshaft at this point, crankshaft has to be welded up and remachined, some might think its pointless to do a lot of work on something that isn’t even all there, but ya never know when the rest of the motor might show up……
and there’s another motor that I’m working on, I have about 2 original parts to start with, everything else is going to be hacked out of various material in the basement, wish me luck…
Best,

You ll understand quickly 🙂No thanks nali. It gets cold here but it seldom lasts very long. Four months of winter and old snow is just ridiculous. The longest we have ever had snow on the ground is about a week. One time.
