A little more help and advice please.

okay so I have it all back together and seems to be running okay pumping lots of water. My question is , when you choke this motor you have to turn the primer knob to the left to close the butter fly, but it wont stay closed unless you hold it in place which makes it awkward to start without three hands.

Is there something i am missing? when it starts and is warm no problem and can turn the primer knob to adjust high speed, just not sure how to keep it choked when trying to start.

      Thanks

When you turn the knob all the way to the left it primes the engine. When you release the knob the choke should stay on until you turn the knob to run.

Thanks , That’s what i thought but when i turn the primer to the left it springs back as soon as i let go of it. So i thought there should be and adjustment to hold it place but I can not find one.

As a second issue it seems like the motor is surging at high speed. Suggestions on what might be the cause of the surging? Do i have to pull the high speed needle again or take the whole carb and start from scratch?

I may have over tightened the packing nut (Stuffing Box) which cause the packing #38 to squeeze out of the nut. This packing is not available, suggestions for replacement packing?

              Thanks

When you turn the knob to prime it pushes down the float pin. Hold it at prime about five seconds for a cold start then release the knob and it will go to choke.
