Hi,
Took the Lone Star with the 100 hp Johnson out for its last run of the year today. Couldn’t pass it up- mid 60s here in Chicago. Ran out of sunlight before I ran out of gas. Have 5 gallons with 50/1 mix in it. I have Stabil in it and could store it for the winter, but I prefer to get rid of it. Anybody run it through their car? Any ill effects?
Thanks,
PaulNovember 15, 2016 at 5:14 am #47496I don’t see why it could be a problem.
November 15, 2016 at 5:58 am #47497It depends what car you put it in. If it is an older car without the computers, it will just smoke a bit, but a computerized ignition maybe have a problem. I don’t know about injectors either….just a thought.
November 15, 2016 at 6:37 am #474985 gallons of 50:1 in a pretty full tank should not cause any issues. I run it through my car or lawn tractor to use it up.
November 15, 2016 at 6:56 am #47499I used to dump remaining 1-2 gallons 50:1 in my 1971 F 250 at the end of the season, never had a problem. The truck had twin 20 gallon tanks, and i would add some pump gas to it also. With the computers today, outboard mix may trip the check engine light? I’ve been reluctant to putting outboard gas in my Isuzu Hombre(S 10 ) with a 4 cylinder, but i’ve sure thought about it.

then you run into troubles
😮November 15, 2016 at 10:48 am #47505Just to throw some proverbial gas in the fire here, today’s Mercruiser stern drives with fuel injection AND CATS call for a winterizing mix of fuel stabilizer, plus TWO QUARTS of TCW-3 oil, per six gallons of gas. That’s like 12:1, isn’t it? To me, this means the cats should be able to tolerate oil. They mostly don’t like misfire. I would bet a nickle that if you dilute with more straight gas, you’ll be alright…..However, have have not tried it myself.

November 15, 2016 at 1:21 pm #47511Oil comes from the same hole in the ground as
the gasoline so the oil itself isn’t a problem.
Additives in the oil is where you could have an
issue if you happen to be using up older oil
which had zinc or lead in it. The metals that
would clog up converters are only found in
specialty oils normally used in competition
today so unless you have been using one of
them you shouldn’t any problems.
