I am starting to assemble a Caille 5 spd. RBM and need to find out what to seal the crank cases with. It is a two piece case with a tongue and grove type flange. gary

        Hi Gary,
I have had good success using OMC gasket sealing compound with thin cotton string set in the base of the groove.

I use Permatex Ultra Black or Ultra Blue for sealing my RBM cranks. The fact is that all these choices are good, just use some kind of sealer when putting these crankcases together.

If I use the ultra blue do I use the string? If I use 847 what size string? what does the string do? This is a new experience for me. Gary

I would use both, string and the sealer. As far as the string size is concerned, it must fit down in the slot and must be able to be compacted so the case will close. If you do not have the string, don’t fear, just fill up the groove with the sealer and you should be good to go.
