I’m putting my model 16 back together after sitting in a
box for 3 years. Although it looked decent the internals
were a mess. I located a decrepit parts motor with blown
cylinders but the crankcase was in great shape with
little play anywhere,all original.
When I took a look the rings are butt cut and no
locating pins. 1st time I’ve run into that.
Even though the original rings were pretty decent I put
in a new set of rings with tighter but in spec end gaps.
Got nice rings from Hastings, very consistent tolerances.
Hastings recommends .0035 end clearance per inch of
bore.
The gap is .008 to .010 at the bottom of the bore and
.012 to .014 at the top of the bore.
Since this is the first time I’ve run into this type of
ring arrangement is there anything I need to be concern
with?
