Was going to mount the power head to the lower unit until and noticed, and
remembered, that I never come up with a new core plug in the bottom
of the water jacket. The hole in for the needed core plug measured at .867 ID.
      Is there such a size?
That measurement doesn’t compute to any “standard” size core plug
I’ve ever heard of. What came out of the hole was like a “two part” plug
with an outer ring about 1/4″ wide. The old plug was rusted through, and
It disintegrated when I removed it, so I tossed it.
Anyone ever seen such a core plug?
Anyway, I made an aluminum plug to fit, a couple thousand’s oversize,
and about .100 thick, and drove it using some Loctite.
I’ve never tried this before, so no clue if it will hold up.

I’m ready to bolt the power head up to the transom mount, but
not sure if there were ever washers between the power head bolt lugs
and transom mount. If so, they’ll have to be very thin.

What you did should hold up well. There isn’t much pressure on the water jacket.

I guess I’d be more concerned with thermal expansion than pressure,
but maybe with the plug being aluminum it will expand “tighter”
than it is now…….. I guess as long as it doesn’t fall out a little “weep”
          wont mater much, lol.
