      I did something wrong…

upon reassembling by  Cd11  cam mag plate etc… I ended up with my cam follower going  behind the cam and making it impossible to turn the throttle handle beyond STOP on the next attempt to go start  and fast.

the cam under the mag plate  hooks over the cam follower  instead of pushing it outwards to open the throttle plate

I did not alter the teeth on the  throttle handle   where it meshes with the engine side. so obviously the problem is above

where did I goof  ?  coud I have  mounted the cam in a wrong set of  bolt holes under the mag plate ?

      thanks

Sounds like you installed the magneto plate and didn’t make sure the cam follower on the carb was pushed forward to clear the cam.   Pull the mag plate back off and push the cam follower forward as you re-install the mag plate.  Also, when you install the mag plate, turn it so the small end of the cam is pointing forward – the follower will then be in front of the cam.   See enclosed pic from my CD-11 assembly.

OK thanks   guess  that is  what happens when  one installs the carb AFTER  the mag plate and cam 🙁      doing the carb first would have made this obvious when reinstalling the mag plate

            i’ll  pull everything and reset

              update:

looks like the  little sleeve I added over the worn (50%)  cam follower  became the problem because the cam had trouble  sliding itself  behind the  cam  follower  to push it up from STOP to SLOW to START    mode position.

the cam was  knocking against the sleeve  rather than sliding behind it to open the throttle plate.    the cam  just needed to be a bit thinner  at the low side so I just rehapped the end tip to  compensate for the  new sleeve thickness…

it was not much but  the sleeve  messed up the cam to cam follower  ” relationship” 🙂

update….  a silly issue really … problem was really the carb linkage to cam follower not installed when the issue came up

reinstalling the carb  links prevented the cam follower from being pulled to far back by the return spring and  stopped it from being hit by the cam’s right side leading edge .

with links in….. the cam   has no problem going behind the cam follower &  pushing the it to open the throttle plate

                clear as mud ?
