Just wanted to let anyone know that uses this carb dip. I had two cans of this stuff over the years and both ate through the bottom of the can a short time after cleaning some parts. I used a new metal paint can the second time it happened and it seemed to hold up. I got rid of it because when it leaks it will stink forever. There was another brand I used years ago that was less smelly and never ate the can, It might have been Gum Out.

The little ultra sonic jewelry cleaners with hot water and pinsol or soap work great. Everything comes out looking brand new it’s amazing.

I use Pine-Sol full strength in a old Crock-Pot.Works great and wont eat up any seals. And makes the garage smell clean.

          quote Ken W:

I love to use 50/50 Pinesol and hot water.

DIY Ultra Sonic Cleaner: Secure a palm sander to the can of cleaner. (tape, bungee cord, inner tube band, etc.)
Hang the can with a string from your work bench to provide maximum vibration. Keep the lid on.

some of the newer gallon paint cans are all plastic now. Most are going with at least a plastic bottom.
so keep an eye out for one that could replace the factory tin coated can.

I have a 40 year old sharpening stone that has been used with oil . . . has not been used in 30 years
and wanted to remove the gunk . . . well, a few days soaking in Parts Cleaner worked quite well.
After several good rinses, boiled it in Dawn dish soap and more gunk came out.
Now, it is like new, BUT – it stinks to High Heaven like the parts cleaner !!! It is hanging on the clothes line
with a string hoping that time will eliminate the lingering stink. I will be using water this time as the lubricant – not oil.

            * and according to my nose, Pinesol stinks just as bad as the parts cleaner – so I don’t use it. (anywhere).

These DIY homemade ones might be Sonic but I’m not sure about Ultra.
