Does anyone know if Sierra makes a carb kit for ’57 35hp Johnson with a float? Thank you
December 29, 2016 at 3:53 pm #49890Sierra 18-7042 is without float, they do not offer a kit with a float.
December 29, 2016 at 4:05 pm #49893Marineengine.com has OEM floats at a decent price:

December 29, 2016 at 9:28 pm #49911I would go with the OEM carb kit, you will be glad you did. Much better quality. Also, the current OEM kit still comes with the old style cork float, [for the 35 hp anyway] that works great..
December 29, 2016 at 9:39 pm #49912The "old style" float is almost old style. The old ones were coated with shellac, which dissolves in alcohol. The new ones are coated in something else that can stand the ethanol in today’s gas.

Scott ParishDecember 30, 2016 at 11:49 am #49932Ok, well I think if you were to walk in to a BRP parts distributor today, and ask for a carb kit, you would get the latest greatest stuff. if the package looks old, then order a new one. I know from experience, that the Sierra kit that was originally asked about at the beginning of this thread, does not come with any float at all….. and often times the gaskets are too thick. So why not buy an OEM kit and be done? After you drive around town to buy a float, then ad up your time and trouble, is it worth it? Just my humble opinion…
December 30, 2016 at 1:44 pm #49936I agree with everyone here that has said to buy the BRP kit. In my opinion a Sierra carb kit isn’t worth the time it takes to put it in unless there is nothing else available. Too many quality issues with the Sierra carb parts makes their kits a bit of a crap shoot and not worth the time and effort as long as OEM is available. There is no float in a Sierra carb kit either, but that was also stated earlier in this thread.
