Hello everyone. I recently tore into a 1948 Scott 481 deluxe single 3.6 hp. It is actually in really good shape and it looks like the previous owner ran it dry so the carb and tank are spotless. I also liked the fact that it has an original spare champion plug in the shroud that has never been used. I bought a few parts and now it fires and wants to run so my question is does someone have a starting place for me to set the two mixtures on the carb? Especially the low idle screw. The carb is a Tillotson MD12A. Thank you in advance

That carburetor picks up the idle fuel by the idle tube running down into the high speed nozzle. The idle needle valve adjusts the air mixed with it. So, the mix is (theoretically) fully rich with the valve screwed all the way in. Note that the high speed needle valve must be unscrewed before the float bowl is removed to prevent bending the needle valve. If the idle pick up tube is plugged, it won’t idle. I believe primary adjustment is ½ to ¾ of a turn on both.
