Very true though, if it is not adjusted properly or at least somewhere close, it won’t run.
April 19, 2017 at 7:23 am #56354If the crankcase bushings are worn, air will bypass the carb through the bushings. Grab hold of the flywheel and move it from side to side to see if there is any movement or slop. There shouldn’ t be any there. You may try as Gary suggested and use a mixture of 40 weight oil in place of outboard oil. That’s 8 ounces oil to a gallon of gas.

June 26, 2018 at 12:54 am #78470I have a similar problem with one of my 500’s. In a water tank with the prop off, she runs fine. Put the prop on and she will barely start. Haven’t done a compression test yet but it all points to it.
September 9, 2018 at 9:54 pm #82513The problem turned out to be the head gasket. It allowed water to enter the combustion chamber. New head gasket and she runs like a champ.
September 10, 2018 at 1:49 am #82527Good to know it was something as simple as that. By the way, where did you get the head gasket?
September 10, 2018 at 2:04 pm #82552A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

October 11, 2018 at 11:55 pm #84311I got the head gaskets from Steve Andres (Neptune Ned). These are for an older model (5 bolt holes vs 3) but with a little modification, they work just fine. Btw…Doug Penn sold his entire inventory to Steve.
