See the attached video as it will do a better explanation than any words I could write but, basically, the motor is not running at full power.
Motor tested out at 90 psi both cylinders. I put in a new impeller (pumps well!), carb kit, fuel lines, points & condensers, plugs & plug wires. Coils looked good and tested good. Looks like they have been replaced at some point (guessing late 70s/early 80s).
I tried running at different needle settings, moving needles 1/4 turn at a time. I could stall it out doing this, but could not get it to run better. I had the slow speed needle reworked by a member who knows about these things so there are no grooves in it. The high speed needle passed a visual inspection (by me).
Thoughts?

June 4, 2017 at 5:19 pm #58966Seems too rich to me
June 4, 2017 at 5:45 pm #58969yeah, way too rich, although it could be just sucking its own exhaust. How does it respond to high speed needle adjustments?
Did you forget the nozzle gasket? Perhaps the old one has deterioratedJune 4, 2017 at 6:00 pm #58970OK, that’s 3 saying it’s too rich (2 here and 1 on youtube). I will try leaning it out. I added the new nozzle gasket that came with the carb kit,FYI.
Thanks guys. I will report back when I have a chance to try it again.

I just left a comment on your YouTube video. Agreed, high speed needle is way rich. Turn it back to full throttle and start turning the high speed needle clockwise until it picks up speed and smooths out.

June 4, 2017 at 7:07 pm #58974Sounded like my Firestone before I figured out it was only firing on one cylinder.
Prepare to be boarded!

I think you need a bigger fan! 😆
But seriously, do you know anybody with sleep apnea?
When I run my CD12 in the barrel I have an old hose from my Cpap machine
that I cut in half and the couplings slip over the end of the air inlets.
Let the open ends of the hose drop down next to the barrel and draw in clean air.
Works better than a fan.
I should be working on my nephews CD12 next week, I’ll try to post pictures then.Steve A W
June 5, 2017 at 4:36 am #59011Awesome Steve! Now I have a use for my old Cpap hoses!
Cool idea!
What else can they be used for?? Anybody else come up with a use for them??

Yeah, I know. I have a shop vac that I could hook up and use to vent out, but I live in a neighborhood where having a pickle up your butt is a requirement for residency. So if I tried to do some more obvious exhaust venting I’d have a ‘situation’ on my hands. The good news is that my youngest child just graduated from high school yesterday so I no longer need to live in the city. Hopefully the right country place will come available within the next couple of years so that I can move somewhere with fewer prying eyes.
June 5, 2017 at 2:56 pm #59041All right, looks like we now have full power. I rev up the engine to full throttle at about the 2:15 mark of the new video (below) for about 30 seconds. Also, Buccaneer, before I started the video the motor sounded like it was running on one cylinder. Sure enough, there was a loose spark plug. The motor doesn’t seem to be idling great but I am hoping that will take care of itself once I get it out in the open so that it doesn’t have to inhale exhaust. Plus, the only true way to set the carb up is to do it on a boat.
A couple of amateurish mistakes by myself but, all in all, a pretty good little project. Thanks for the help fellas. Let me know if you have any other thoughts or ideas.
