      Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the help with the CD-16. She’s back to starting easy and purring like she should.

I do have a quick question though. The low and high speed carburetor adjust knobs keep moving to the left as the engine vibrates. Eventually, the engine runs rich and bogs down. Is there a nut I missed that tightens these things down? I should I just tape them in place and move on?

      Thanks,

      Steve.

Packing inside the carb adds friction to the needles just tighten the brass till you get the right tension.

Snug the packing nut up with a 7/16 wrench after getting the needles adjusted, but not too tight as you may need to fine tune them .

Yes, just snug up the packing nuts.

              Steve,
There should be a brass ‘sleeve’ that the adjustment needles fit inside with a hex head on them. Those are the packing nuts and they are there to compress the packing washers into a tapered seat in the carb body around the threaded portion of the needles. Those should be snug enough to prevent vibration from moving the needles out of adjustment at a very minimum. Once the adjustments are close to dialed in, I always snug them up so the knobs do not turn so easily that the adjustments can be easily moved accidentally. I make the final adjustment after they are pretty snug.

Whenever I rebuild a carb I remove the old packing and clean the pocket out well making sure to get out all the old crumbles of packing. I then replace the packing washers with new ones. The packing prevents unwanted movement of the adjustments as well as air leaking past the needles and leaning out the mixture.

              I hope this helps.

Thanks again guys. I did not rebuild the carburetor, so I’ll snug those down and see what happens. I appreciate it!
