November 9, 2022 at 11:19 am #268850Good pumps??? Depends. There were two look-alike pumps, one with real check valves, and other with rubber flap valves. The ones with real check valves were excellent, other not-so. Either way, both are now highly obsolete and parts NLA.

Without opening the pump upI suppose maybe there might be different markings on the castings, but my rememberence is not that great.
EDIT: Gaskets #50 & 62 Might be different material as viewed on the edges. Paper for the real check valves, rubber for flappers.

i’ll see if the engine runs if not…. I have lots of square pumps in the bin.

November 11, 2022 at 7:14 pm #268946I always liked this style fuel pump. They’re reliable and pretty easy to rebuild, especially if there was a kit for them. In a post years ago explaining how you could rebuild one of these Frank said “Take the pump apart at the seam closest to the motor, and try not to disturb the other seam or you will be making a complicated gasket.” Once in a while I find those gaskets on eBay and a couple times even the riveted diaphragm. I know there are cheap square pumps out there that guys have various degrees of success with. Nothing wrong with that to see if they make a good alternative. But I also like trying to keep these old ones going if I can.
