I’ve used thick fuel line to replace the front bullet bumpers on Johnsons but I really like this idea of using tire valves for the rosettes!
That’s the best idea I’ve seen in ages and can’t wait to try it out. Thanks for the tip Steve!

February 5, 2022 at 3:01 pm #254065haha thanks crosbyman, I wish I could take credit for that one. I actually got it from a fellow local outboard guy years ago. A few things I did, if I remember correctly….after taking out the core, I put it in the vise “bottoms up” with the threads clamped in the vise, it doesn’t matter if the threads get “squished”. I used a 1/4″ bit, variable speed is better cuz if you go too fast it may have a tendency to grab and twist the whole thing. Go as fast as you can without binding but start on the slow side. After the brass innards are gone, then cut to length and I think I might have used either a Dremel cut-off wheel or hacksaw. At that point with just rubber remaining even a diagonal cutter probably works.

I’ll glue (JB) the new post in and set the modified tr415 valve over it. 🙂 should be fine

missing rear rosette replaced with shorten TR415 valve …new mounting post installed …. about 5/32 12NC24
TR415 valve was cut to same length as the remaining rosette… then I pushed out the brass sleeve inside & latex glued over the new post looks great fits perfect 🙂
SteveD … cutting the valve to size (hacksaw) first prevents the need to drill out the valve section ! Only a short piece of brass remains in the valve body and can be pushed out 🙂
