started the winter project on a nice 5.5hp … top cyl 90 psi… bottom one… pia to screw the pressure hose so I figure it is ok ….
the good thing is that it is a single line fuel system but for some momentary brain fog I assumed it was 2 line….
Magneto all cleaned up new ZNONGFADZ coils installed , new plug cables and boots, points look ok ,… new condensers and…..NO SPARKS 🙁
I was certain it was bad coils ( some have been known to be DOA…. 🙁
Readjusted points, wiped them down with cleaner and piece of paper and BAM…. HOT SPARKS 🙂 on both plugs
Found no oil in GC and suspect it was just drained for winter… shifting and gears seem fine. To be pressure tested and refilled if OK
carb to be done next and most likely impeller
pics.. and more to follow

January 14, 2023 at 8:23 am #271137yes they are for that purpose after I got tired of trying to have each bolt at the exact depth to get the balancer level… and not go to deep in the fw 🙂

January 14, 2023 at 8:54 am #271138I have 5 CD/Fisherman — they’re incredibly reliable as long as they have clean fuel, sealed gearcases and new water pumps.
My only gripes are 1) when the lower unit spring-loaded clutch on the end of the driveshaft has let glow and 2) when overzealous owners have stripped one or more of the headbolts (as it is really easy to do).

Looks like someone has already gone through the mag – or was that you?
TubsA "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Long live American manufacturing!
January 15, 2023 at 6:32 pm #271215Keep it coming sire.
Waiting for seals for the early 57 18 Ev so thought I would winterize my 58 John 5.5. Nothing came out but white sludge (motor used once for 30 min. after last refill). So tear down. Pressure test was a lot of air coming out of the exhaust hole. YECHS!
So I will follow your progress.
Finding a seal kit that one can afford AND understand has been a challenge. The last two Peterborough motors I have worked on had Chicago Rawhide seals. This motor started and ran easily AND pumped water. The paper seal under the pump housing was a mess. Maybe that was a problem.
Why are these Sierra and BRP and the #$%.com seals such a problem. They send you enough for five different models but don’t tell you anything about what’s included. -
