I am restoring a 1938 Champion S2d. I am trying to find the right paint for the motor. I have tested aluminum paint but it does not seem to be right for the Champion.
On my previous post, a member suggested that the original paint was either aluminum or silver. I suspect it is silver. I have attached some pics showing the aluminum test paint compared to the original paint on the champion. The first pic is a fuel valve with the original S2D paint next to a fuel line with aluminum duplicolor test paint I got from o’rielly auto. The color is very similar but the duplicolor does not have a chrome-like metallic shine like the original S2D paint. The second pic shows 2 fuel lines. The top one is painted with the duplicolor aluminum. The bottom is the original S2D paint. both lines sit on top of my 1940 zephyr. Note that the duplicolor aluminum is virtually identical to the zephyr paint.
I cannot seem to find a high heat silver or chrome metallic paint in a rattle can. Can anyone suggest a brand and color that may be suitable? Or should I be looking into more professional mixed paint?
      Thanx for your help.

Perhaps the valve is nickle plated?

S2D is a ’38 standard lite twin. ’35-’38 standard models were painted dull aluminum on most all metal, including tanks & brass parts. Deluxe models had chrome tanks which were later sometimes used as replacement tanks on other models when rust-out occurred. Some ’36-’38 models used gold painted cylinders but I have no evidence for the S2D cylinders.
Your pictures seem to show nickel plated valve & fuel line. Your O’rielly paint looks right.
