Checking motors

Looking at 2 Evenrude 35520 40hp motors unknown history. Sait to have run 3-5 years ago. What to check, can I safely turn motors over for compression check with out being water. any help is appreciated. Thanks Marcus Westbrook new member Puget Sound Chapter windshield might fit my 58 CRESTLINER BUCCANEER 15 SPEEDSTER, also has a nice bow and stern light and period controls. is $ 300. – 375 a good price

Just from the picture, looks like a clean lightly used motor and boat. If under the hood is as clean and unmosested as the outside appears, I sure would go for it. On turning over for a compression test, no worry as you will be changing out the pump impellor anyway….. just my $0.02 worth
