I’m trying to replace this boot on my 1957 35hp Johnson….it looks like the shaft might unscrew to remove the boot but it looks fragile and I don’t want to ruin it…..Have any of you replaced this and if so, what techniques?

I have replaced the boot on my 1957 Evinrude 35 HP motor. The boot just slips over the outside of the solenoid body then the boot has to be starched to get it out of the groove on the solenoid shaft. Those boots are hard to come by.
