When I was taking the guts of of subject motor LU gear box,
a little steel, stepped bushing fell out. I was told that it
was a locating pin for the prop shaft thrust bushing. For
the life of me, I can figure out where it goes. There’s
a hole in the side of the bushing and a matching hole
in the bushing bore (on the bottom side), but the hole
is too big for this little locating pin / bushing.
Anyone recognize this locating pin and know exactly
where it goes? Am I missing any parts?
UPDATE 6-26-2016 – I woke up smarter today and
got the locating pin figured out.
Install the prop shaft thrust bushing (sliding fit) into
the housing bore, install shouldered locating pin / bushing
into the thrust bushing from the inside of bushing.
Installing the prop shaft keeps the locating pin from
falling out.
Sill curious what any manual would say about the
drive shaft seal, (see below) which brings up
the point, are there any manuals that cover the
early Chris Craft outboards?
Also, the fuzzy parts diagram shows a drive shaft seal.
I was told not to mess with it. Sounds like good advice,
but am still curious to know how it was replaced?
I’m guessing it would have to be pulled out along with
the drive shaft bushing with a long threaded rod.
Is it an actual seal down that long hole, o-ring, or ???
Your wisdom appreciated!
