I just bought a 1967 Chrysler 20 HP and was wondering what fuel mix to use. I’ve seen 40:1, 50:1 ad 16:1 in my searches. I can’t find an owner’s manual anywhere.

Another question: Where do you find a Chrysler fuel connector that works? The SeaSense one I bought doesn’t connect right and doesn’t allow fuel to flow.

      Thanks for any help

My Old Outboard Manual (as close as I can get) actually says 48:1 with a note to double the oil for severe service. 40:1 seems a good compromise, unless you’re racing a lot. I think you need the Eska/Clinton fitting for the older Chryslers, or buy both ends. That seems to be a fairly common problem.

My brother has that model. He’s replaced the fuel connectors with OMC — easier and cheaper to get. 50:1 works fine. West Bend designed simple, utilitarian motors — not all had really fine tolerances, some with oversize bearings — they can tolerate a variety of fuel mixtures (nothing rarer than 50:1).

Warning: I have several Chrysler/West Bend/Sea King of that era. At least 3 have no lower unit. If you shift rapidly from Forward directly to Reverse or from neutral at high (~1000+) RPM, you will destroy the lower unit. The inertia of the gears and propshaft slamming against the rear propshaft carrier cracks the support structure around that carrier. Affected are those with carriers held in with a snap ring/circlip. Those with the 2 screws to attach the carrier to the gearcase are not.

Ever do the math? What everybody calls 50:1 ( 1 pint oil to 6 gallons gas) isn’t really 50:1. It’s really 48:1

I guess the confusion starts with the fact that an OMC 6 gallon tank won’t hold 6 gallons of gas, plus a pint of oil.

              time to convert to Metric 🙂 25 L and 500 ml of oil = 50/1 🙂

Thank you guys for all the great information! It seems like there isn’t much out there about Chryslers. The motor runs well and is surprisingly well engineered. I was shocked when I pulled the cowl off that there wasn’t much under there and is easy to work on.

                Thanks again
