I may need rings for the 1951 Elgin 7.5 hp I’m working on.
They are 2″ x .062,, ground on each end to locate on
piston land pins. There’s several rings for sale on Ebay with Chrysler parts
numbers, that mention Elgin and West Bend.
Of course no actual ring sizes are mentioned.
I’ve contacted the seller to see if he can tell me if he has
the actual size I need…… but we all know how that goes.Is there any data source that would tell rings sizes based
on the Chrysler number, i.e., Chrylser A761260
Thanks.Prepare to be boarded!
November 11, 2022 at 9:17 pm #268954From what I can glean from my almost-always-accurate motor bible, your 7.5 specs reappear sporadically in the West Bend series, finally culminating in the ’66-’67 Chrysler 6-hp. Chrysler does use a 2-in bore for their 6.6, 7, 8 and singles thru the 70s and 80s. So if your seller isn’t selling anything past 8-hp, I guess it might work ?

I couldn’t find any part number for the 7.5 rings that matched the Chrysler rings on EBay,
but when I started working on the 5 hp, I found that it also had a two inch bore,
and one of the Chrysler numbers on Ebay matched up, so I ordered a set.
I presume that the two powerheads are different strokes perhaps, the 5 hp being
2-11/16″ stroke, but I found no specs for the 7.5 hp.
Hopefully the rings I ordered will fit one powerhead or the other!

November 12, 2022 at 7:55 pm #268978For ’51 and ’52, it appears the 5 and 7.5 have the same specs (2 x 1 11/16). The 7.5 went to 2 1/8 in 53. The 5, 5.5 and 6 stayed the same thru the 50’s. 10.6 cu in displacement. So i’m guessing if those rings fit the 5, they’d fit the 7.5 as well.

Thanks, it sounds like I’ll have a chance with the rings working then.
I opened up the 5 hp today, and noticed it does not have the rod, crank end,
roller bearings like the 7.5 hp does.Prepare to be boarded!
