Chrysler running bad with hood on

Hi, Have a 20 hp Chrysler that runs nice with the hood off, but runs bad with it on. It has 2 holes for the remote controls near the carb, so I would think it should be able to get enough air, what am I missing? Thanks in advance

Gotta ask this: Are you running it in a tank? If you are, get it out of there and on a boat on the lake, and the problem will most likely disappear.

Somehow, I think you are getting exhaust up under the cover when idling. I’m not familiar with that model, but have seen it happen on other brands when exhaust housing seals go bad.

Make sure the latching mechanism on the hood isnt grounding out either of the spark plugs. I had that happen before with a 70hp Chrysler when it broke a motor mount….
