I think I have a little leak in my oil hose that lubricates the top and bottom bearing of my motor and thought I would just change the hose to be sure. It certainly looks fairly brittle and used. Anyway, it currently has some clamps on the two ends that I suppose were factory clamps.
I have no idea how the clamps work, so I can loosen them to remove the current hose. Do they need to be cut out or can they be loosened and reused? If they can’t be reused does anyone have any suggestions on what type of clamp to use for the new hose I install?

July 26, 2015 at 9:45 pm #20930It depends on how original you want the motor to be. Me..I use a clear blue tinted fuel line from my local motorcycle shop. It’s cheap at 59 cents a foot and being clear I can see what is or is not going through the lines. Small zip ties make excellent hose clamps.
July 26, 2015 at 11:42 pm #20950The original clamps are just split rings and can be opened up with a small screwdriver. A cheap pair of pliers with the inner teeth ground out makes a good crimping tool to reinstall them. As for the leak, the hoses tend to crack at the bottom right where they make the sharp bend.

July 27, 2015 at 8:36 pm #21024Weed whacker fuel line works good too. You can get that in clear or yellow. Like wannabe outboard guy says, you will be able to see what fuel mix is going through that line and make sure your top bearing is getting fed.
July 29, 2015 at 3:14 pm #21152Does anyone know what the inside diameter (ID) of that oil hose is. I was told it was 3/16" but then someone else told me they tried that and said it was too big. Anyone know for sure.
July 29, 2015 at 3:41 pm #21153I just measured one. 1/8". Clamps should not be used to prevent hose leaks. If it leaks the hose is too loose a fit. The clamps are to prevent it from blowing off.
