Well, if the coils are severely cracked, they can’t be producing great spark under load for sure. So, the ignition needs servicing , and it won’t hurt to do that before going after the intake. But. you did mention that the engine runs briefly when the cylinders are directly primed with fuel….So, some spark is being produced, seems like too much of a coincidence that spark issues are keeping the engine from running off the carburetor…. Order both the intake gaskets so you will have them if and when you must remove the intake….

I believe Fleetwin is correct with his suggesting that the coils are the problem. If the coils are cracked and broken you can bet that they need to be replaced, even if they are showing spark when spinning the motor. It will more than likely be too weak to be effective . ……….strong spark under compression is a must!

Well either way the ignition parts needed to be replaced. My dealer had everything in stock.
He ran the gasket numbers and they came back as no longer abailable.
          Part #s 203379 and 203378.
Any ideas where I should look next?
If I need to remove the manifold.

You can find those 2 manifold gaskets on Ebay for less than $10 apiece.

                  Here’s a couple links:

I’ve bought lots of parts from this Ebay seller and never had a problem.

Edit – sorry, didn’t notice you are in Canada. Yes, shipping cost is way more to your destination.

                    Is this float correct?

Your float is installed upside down.

The tab, for setting float drop, should be pointing towards the body of the carb. The cutouts in the float should face upwards, away from the fuel in the bowl. The way it is in your photo, the float won’t have enough buoyancy to close the float valve and the motor will flood.

Sorry about the float picture. That pic is opposite of the way it was installed

Just saw this post. So the float was installed correctly?

Yes mumbles, the float was correct. The picture post was an error. All new ignition parts and I’ll try it again. I’m thinking the spark was to weak or intermittent.
