I just tried to get online and I think my PC had been switched to W10, had a real big windows emblem on the start up page(?), half the icons were gone, wanted me to log in to google chrome. I didn’t do anything, restarted and everything went back to normal. I’m pretty much computer illiterate, is there anything to do, anyone to contact, if it happens again? I had read or heard that they were just switching people like that, and a box opens all the time with "get w10 now", but I always just close it. I’m telling ya, I was totally screwed. NOBODY, not even microsoft, should be able to that, this is MY computer and they don’t own the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, I’m not Bill Gates, but I sort of doubt you got an un-asked-for upgrade from Microsoft. I had to ask for mine (yes after they offered it). Anyhoo, Microsoft Windows has their own browser, now called "Edge" so I can’t see them promoting their competition. But Chrome works better.

If you press the Windows key (the flag thingy) do you get a screen full of Apps icons? Those are Windows 8 and 10 stuff. Default on 8, press the key to see them on 10.

If you have W 8 or 10, you probably would have had a problem finding the shutdown/restart if you don’t know where it is.

I have w7pro, earlier today I went online like usual, shut it down, and when I came back on I WAS SCREWED!!. YES, I heard about people being switched UNWANTED/UNASKED weeks ago. FrankR – I didn’t do anything different – I was run over by microsoft, f__k microsoft!!!!!!!!!
They want everyone on W10 because it is the SUPRETRACKER of all operating systems. Just like losers troll CL to get your email address, well w10 tracks EVERYTHING you do, and make money by selling your online searches, by the billions!!

No, I read they were just switching people over. Luckily, I didn’t try to log in. If it was someone wanting to take over my computer, they had it, they wouldn’t have it go back, by shutting down and restarting MS let it go back to W7.

Not to be fear mongering but updates to W7 or W8 could include the same tracking software as a required update. They own the software, you just license if from them. If you want to avoid microsoft, consider Linux versions like Ubuntu. Likely most of the things you do can be easily done and it’s free.

Supposedly Linux systems can be breached by hitting the backspace key 28 times. Urban legend or not?
