I have a 1998 Evinrude 6 hp model number CE6RCEC. Is it possible to convert this to an 8 hp?

I haven’t done any comparisons on the 6 and 8hp, but I was able to turn my 1984 OMC 40hp into a 50hp because they used the same block, the 50hp just used carbs with a bigger throat and the reed stops allow the 50hp reeds to open farther.

I started to do a comparison and right off the bat I found they take a different cylinder & crankcase assy. So I stopped at that.

No, not really possible for 89 models. The 8hp crankcase is different…Larger intake manifold and different exhaust ports.

Oh well, thanks is it an 89, I thought it was a 98? Must have looked it up wrong. The 6 won’t quite plane the boat but it’s still good for putting around the bay a trolling so I’ll keep it.

                It is an ’89. C=8, E=9.
