I recently bought a boat with a 20” transom. I have a 1962 40 HP. Evinrude Lark 4 with the standard lower unit (not the selectric electric shift). I would like to convert this 15” transom engine to 20”. I would like to know what other years of Evinrude motors could I source parts from. I have a friend with several Evinrude 40Hp. junk motors but they are earlier or later. He is a distance from me so I cannot easily research myself.  Someone let me know if  parts were shared for several years of engines.

I converted a 1961  40 Lark by finding someone who wanted to convert the other way and we exchanged long and short parts through the US-mail.

Your 1962 40 HP will swap long and short parts with 1958 Johnson 35 HP Super Sea Horse (not the standard model), 1958 35 HP Lark (not the standard Big Twin).  1959  35 HP Johnsons and Evinrudes.  Most or all 1960s 40 HP Johnsons and Evinrudes.  I don’t know how high you can go in the 1960s/1970s, but someone here will know.

Avoid the electric shift models unless yours is electric shift – then you must have that.
