I keep telling myself that the last thing I need is more motors (wife just shakes her head). However when opportunities present themselves you just have to give in. A friend of a friend had "some old motors" to sell. Went to take a look and one of them was this WB3 which is complete with the exception of the vent plug on the gas cap. The down side is that it is seized up but for $20 I couldn’t pass it up. My Sea King K1 was in similar condition so maybe lightening will strike twice.
The second motor is this Elgin 2.5hp that is in good original condition. Feels to have good compression and paint look pretty good for it’s age. Last thing I was looking for was an Elgin but he basically begged me to buy it for $25 so I bit. It will get put in line somewhere and looked at when I get time.

Nice little gems

Thanks guys. Yes, the Elgin is all original. Only problem I’ve seen with it so far is that the gas cap was a booger to remove. Threads need to be cleaned up. Anyone happen to have a parts diagram for it?
Louis, I anticipated that you would chime in on the Wizzie. Yes a little scruffy but I see a hidden gem under all the gunk. Rose colored glasses anyone?

So the boss left to have some fun while I worked on projects. Decided I’d play with the Elgin a bit to see where I stood. Went to pull the plug and it’s an old one made by Allstate with the threaded nut on my the end. The nut was on there so tight it took some pliers to loosen. The plug was really in there but it finally came out. I was REALLY surprised to see Elgin green paint on the plug and nut. It was obvious that the nut had never been off as the only scuffs on it were from my pliers. I am flabbergasted that the original plug is in there and I don’t think it’s ever been removed.
Checked the compression and it’s at a decent 75 psi. Wondered to myself if it would fire so shot some gas in the carb and got it to fire. Surprised the heck out of me. Problem is that it wouldn’t repeat it but not too concerned. Adjust some points and hopefully she’ll be a runner. Hope the impeller is obtainable.
More later

Is a Bakelite square piece. That is the nicest original I have seen. That front decal is
Amazing. Getting the lower unit off is a project. I have 3 and they are great enginesMay 14, 2017 at 1:06 pm #57697Anonymous
Howdy Lee. I was looking for a parts list for this motor when I found that website. Lots of info which I haven’t had a chance to read yet.
