If you have a real Scott connector and want to change the o-ring, here’s what I do.
1) Clamp the ribbed part of the connector in a vice with the ears up
2) Soak the end well with favorite penetrating oil and give the end some gentle heat
3) Use something like a #2 Phillips head (or any tool that fits between/under the two ears as a handle/puller) and twist & pull the retainer out.
The retainer is only press-fit into the housing – once out you will see the check ball, spring and the o-ring. Replace the o-ring with a comparably sized new one, if you can find one that is Viton or otherwise ethanol proof, all the better! Re-heat and lubricate and reinstall the parts in the same order they came apart.
Here is the only photo I have handy showing the Scott connectors – the top one is the original style Scott. The later style McCulloch next down is similar, but it has been a while since I worked on one of them so my memory isn’t 100%.
