So in the process of tear-down of a 1960 Scott 40hp (A3HB) i noticed 2 cracks in the engine case… the larger of the two appears to be from the factory(?) since there appears to be paint in the crack. The 2nd and more concerning is the crack on the case near the piston… I would like some feedback: is this repairable with aluminum brazing? JB weld? or is the case shot and time to become an anchor?

Those look like casting faults and may not go all the way through the water jacket, crank case, cylinder block.
Mumbles is right – TIG makes a strong weld without destroying everything around it. I would recommend you seek out someone who does automotive welding.
i ordered a scope to check if this extends into the inside of the cylinder wall (i don’t want to tear off the head). I will update with what i find out
