picked up a flattop 9.5 sportwinn with the OMC square pump. Motor is tagged with a brass colored nameplate as a CD15 !!
looks like a 67-68 (still in the shed for now)
purchased $50 on Kijiji for parts but I will autopsy when possible in case I can revive it .
Came with a big round prop protector bolted on the skeg and cavitation plate … 🙄
almost looks like the guy wanted to run shallow with rocks everywhere
2 inch air hole punched in the cowl just above the carb 😮 (fiberglass & bodywork should fix that)
😀 summer 17 ….winter 18 project

April 1, 2017 at 11:32 am #55289Propeller guard kit 172798. We never sold any because it would render the motor useless in Florida water weeds.

And you might as well prepare for replacing the infamous shift rod boot to keep the smoke out of the hood. Nymarine makes repros.
April 1, 2017 at 11:35 am #55290are they truly usefull or just a pain …I plan to take it off so if anybody wants fcfs
update… I just checked that part number !!!! holy cow $150 US and UP…. unreal
FR are you talking about the exhaust boot because it looked fine. now with 3 Sportwin… all are ok boot wise 🙂

April 1, 2017 at 12:24 pm #55291Yup seen that hole many times in cowl. Exhaust leak. Have fun with that!
April 1, 2017 at 12:41 pm #55295well…should exhaust become a big issue..for 50$ I am still good with that $70 choke knob I needed for my first 9.5, idle knob (now a radio knob) for my second 9.5, the broken detent ridge on the 2nd 9.5 handle
aside from the exhaust boot anywhere else these 9.5 leak exhaust enough to get a guy to drill out a 2 inch breather hole just above the carb….to let rain water and splash enter the engine ??
the way $50 disappears at the Casino 😮 I am not to worriedJoining AOMCI has priviledges 🙂

You can’t see this bellows without a lot of disassembly.
Both parts are discontinued.
DaveApril 1, 2017 at 2:04 pm #55302Everybody is quick to blame the boot #87, but that usually is not the real cause. The biggie is the #78 bellows around the shift rod. The third possibility is the seal on top of the water pump—don’t leave it out. Any of these three routes are famous for letting the hood fill up with exhaust smoke.
April 1, 2017 at 2:09 pm #55304The seal on top of the water pump, if missing, will fill the hood with smoke, big time.
April 1, 2017 at 10:35 pm #55333interesting info guys … I never noticed #78 and the potential impact of waterpump seal …
when I fire this oldy up… if I decide to revive it….. should it look like a runner i’ll be sure to check for major fumes under the hood
my other good 9.5 runs like a charm
any special way to reach#78 is it reachable from the bottom with the LU out
