althouh I have mostly repaired J&E    a few Mercs  have drwan my support a  3.9   a 4.0 hp

and more recently a 7.5hp approx 1977 (120 psi :-)) in need of  some TLC  .

One  aspect that irks me is the scratches and tears on the  decals  where aluminum striping decorates  tthe top and bottom  of side decals

Black touch -ups with   black fingernail polish works  fairly well  over Mercury Black  but trim  chrome touch ups  are different.

this is what I ended up using with pretty good finish for chrome trims  and  hopefully summer heat will not peel it off.   🙂  I will know  next summer when  ice is  out 🙂        just pick  the proper  size  tape

MECCANIXITY Aluminum Foil Tape, 0.2 inch x 32.8ft Foil Tape (3.1 mil), High-Temperature HVAC Tape, Silver Tape Aluminum Tape for Ductwork, Dryer Vent, HVAC (Pack of 5), Masking Tape – Amazon Canada

Necessity is the mother of invention. Looks great. I will put this in my mental note book. I better write it down too. Thanks for the tip.

Mask around it and with a fine aluminum
polish you can get even closer to the
          chrome look.

I buy this polish at a auto parts chain store.
They have a variety of metal polish’s.
The less expensive ones will work but
require a bit more effort. The You Tube
video’s I watch, that are buy guys in Canada,
often mention Princes Auto. If you have one
near by, or another auto parts chain store,
they will have something much more affordable.

never heard of Princes auto but I will ckeck them out … I have so  few  “feet”  of foil trim to polish up .. the expense may not be justified but thanks anyway for info.

I will try  some NEVER DULL or  similar stuff first.   Photos can be tricky because in real life close-up view of  the foil I used kind of looks pretty good compared to the   damaged  foil on my 7.5.

if it ever does peel of due to  engine or summer heat  i’ll  reapply with  a proper glue.

I think you’ll find that getting it off,
                  if you need to,
will be more of a challenge than
                  getting it to stick.
