OK, admittedly I don’t understand anything you described in your last post!  But that is OK.   To be honest, 90PSI doesn’t seem too abnormal for a cold engine.  Yes, I see the gouge in the lower piston, but that might not have much effect on compression if the rings aren’t stuck in place.  No way of knowing more unless you pull the head and exhaust cover.  120PSI seems like an optimistic claim for an old used engine to me, your 90PSI readings seem more “normal” to me for an old used engine.  Try peeking at the lower piston through the intake ports with the rings showing to see if they are stuck/damaged due to that gouge in the piston skirt.  Unfortunately the 1985 engine this came from was one of the ones affected by that dumb 100:1 sales gimmic/promotion malarky, which might explain the messed up piston.

I’m sure ebay will cover this if the original sale was covered by ebay protection.    So, why am I saying all this?  Well, just in case the seller allows you to keep this powerhead (yes, this sometimes happens, they don’t want to pay the return shipping), you may want to have a closer look at this thing.   The 90 PSI readings seem somewhat “normal” to me for this old powerhead.  I would have no problem using this old thing if no other issues are found during a more thorough inspection (pull head and exhaust covers).  Yes, this looks like a salty dog, but perhaps the hardware will loosen up without too much persuasion.    The seller’s 120PSI readings seem “optimistic” for an engine of this age.

What happened to your original powerhead??

My original powerhead has low and uneven compression 75 psi/85 psi. I could not start it even though I put gas in the cylinders via the spark plug hole to see if it pops but not. I have put a new charge coil on it so I got spark. My original powerhead cylinder wall has a long mark on it and I don’t thing I could get away with the honing so when I see E-bay powerhead advertised 120/120, I jump in to buy it at reasonable price. Good news is the seller will give me some refund (he did not tell me yet the $$$) and I keep this powerhead. I will open it up and clean inside (It was in Florida salt water). I may hone the cylinders out, find a good used piston or reused good piston from my original powerhead, put a new set of ring on, replace top and bottom seals, new set of gasket. One of simple project turns out a restoration project!

OK, well before you accept his partial refund offer, I would get permission to pull the exhaust cover and cylinder head.  No sense keeping this thing if the cylinders are gouged up.
