      I use a tubing cutter to cut them.

      I put the rod in a drill and use a mini tubing cutter. Cut 3 or 4 in no time.    

       

       

      A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

        Interesting that the OMC Service calls for stainless shear pins.  My 1956 FD-10 has what I think is an original pin in it.  It looks like brass, and I was surprised to see that the midpoint is scored, I imagine to encourage it to break.

          seems to me  SS would fine  on a 5.5 with a shock absorber but i’ll go brass  on my 6hp with no shock absorber

            Ya, I’m still a newbie.  I know my CD-15 has a shock absorber built into the drive system somehow.  I don’t think my FD-10 has that, and I don’t think the FD-10 prop has a rubber “slip hub?” like on modern outboards.
