      Hi Fellas / Members,

I am a member of the Finger Lakes Chapter and would like to know where I can get replacement water pumps for early 50’s 7.5 hp Firestone / ScottAtwater motor. I live in the Rochester New York area. I’ve tried Langs Outboards in Tonawanda. But, he doesn’t have the ones with the metal core. He only has knock-off ones with plastic cores that can easily strip out with the pin lock on the drive shaft. Can anyone steer me to a source for this water pump? Or, suggest a possible replacement from another make that might fit? Or, something that can be modified to fit? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you have the old metalcore, try club member Brian Wilcox.  He casts new rubber on the old hub.  He’s in the member directory.

Worst case, if you do not have cores, they can be made from brass (rubber bond to copper and brass, but, not to steel)  The need for for work around increases with age of outboard. You will find those who restore very early cars, outboards or other machinery are masters at finding ways and means.

Thumbs up Louis! I guess I might have to get a machine shop to make up some copper cores. And then, give it to someone who can rubber mold the impeller fins onto them. Since I don’t have any machine tools. Just your every day tool box wrenches etc. Kind of expensive for a water pump, though.
