Easy question: The old DC generators used by OMC in the ’50s & ’60s….are they "Grounded Field" ("B-Circuit") or "Live Field" ("A-Circuit")?
(For all of my electrical & electronics background, I’m a wee bit embarrassed to say that I don’t know the difference! 😥 😥 😥 )

Now if I could only hunt down a bracket…..

Refresh my memory—what motor? I have a couple of them.
September 11, 2018 at 5:50 pm #82661Sorry….my vague comment wasn’t fair.
The engine is a ’57 Golden Javelin. The brackets (left & right) have little "points" on the front of them to engage the cowl mounts. Most cowls don’t mount that way, so most brackets don’t have the points. Finding a generator bracket with a point is very difficult!
Here’s a thread I started from earlier this year…with pictures of what I’m talking about:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16473&p=88157&hilit=generator#p88157September 11, 2018 at 10:32 pm #82682….and just this evening, I’ve confirmed for sure that the bracket part number is 377006. Anyone got one they’d like to part with?
September 11, 2018 at 11:13 pm #82686Nope, the ones I have don’t have the Johnson points
September 12, 2018 at 12:47 pm #82708Could one be modified by welding on a pointed stud…or are they very different from the evinrude variety?
Mas
September 12, 2018 at 1:15 pm #82712I measured it…..the "non-pointy" bracket doesn’t lend itself to modification, as the forward face (where the point needs to be) is too far inboard. The 377006 bracket is pretty unique in its dimensions, irrespective of the point…
If anyone has a 377006 that they’d like to part with, please let me know!
September 12, 2018 at 7:58 pm #82738Of course you could weld up an adaptor for the Johnson mounts. All you would need is a Johnson mount for the dimensions. On the other hand, if you had a Johnson mount, you wouldn’t need to make an adaptor . . . 😆
