Have an elgin 1.25, replaced plug wire, cleaned & adj points (0.20), removed & cleaned carb. got it to start & run several times but would not stay running for any length of time maybe 30-45 seconds. sounded good while it was running, but seemed to be running out of gas. Removed & double checked carb, float level good, needle & seat working properly all jets clean. Reassemble, blow out fuel line try to start, now nothing. still has strong spark, there’s fuel in the bowl, compression feels good. Any ideas what I should try next
August 23, 2021 at 7:41 am #245331What is your main carb needle set at? My motor runs best with the high speed needle just 1/4 turn open. NABMD
August 23, 2021 at 7:49 am #245332Does it have a fat blue spark after warming up? If this has a WICO ignition, check or replace the condenser.

August 23, 2021 at 9:19 am #245333You may also want to check the fuel flow. The fuel shut off may have a filter that is gunked up. You can also check to see if the tank vent screw isn’t plugged.

Confirm your suspicions that it is
not getting fuel buy squirting some
fuel into the carburetor. If it will not
start and you are sure enough fuel is
getting to the carburetor then there
is an issue with the carburetor.
If you can get it to start than the
problem is elsewhere.
TubsA "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
August 23, 2021 at 9:10 pm #245365Opened throttle sprayed carb cleaner in, still nothing, no backfire, sputter , nothing. Still seems to have good spark w/new plug. Will try removing flywheel later and see if something with the breaker cam messing up timing, it’s a long shot. Will ck comp 1st but fairly certain that it’s ok seeing that it ran (if only for a very short time) the other day. Thanks to all for your help

I 100% agree with this. I have never seen a good used Wico condenser. Don’t even waste your time going down the testing road.
Long live American manufacturing!
