HEY GUYS . stumped on a md59a carb . been through it several times . i have gas coming out of the vent on top .gas only leaks out when the top is on the carb . in can bench test the needle and seat with fuel going to the bowl and stops flowing when the float rises to the top . put the top on and fuel will come out the vent hole . any is ideas ?

That’s odd. Those carbs are commonly found where somebody has plugged the vent hole with a toothpick. But obviously not the case here, since gas is coming out it must not be plugged. I assume the high speed needle/main nozzle are not plugged or you would have seen that.

Is there something on the top half assembled wrong, so that when you put the two halves together, something is holding the float down a bit?

Or maybe the float level adjustment is set too high and the body of the carb pushes the float down where it is supposed to run, but now the valve is open? When the bowl is off and you hold it upside down, the float should be roughly parallel to the top of the bowl (Which is upside down at this point.) Is that clear as mud?

          Long live American manufacturing!

i’m wondering about the tooth pick in the vent hole . it was so buggered up and after the soaking in carb cleaner i cleaned it out . why would a person plug the vent unless this card has the tendency to leak ??
