      I am looking for a green that would be suitable for a 1951 elgin 5hp. Not ny marine, something affordable.

        If you want something more affordable than NY Marine or Effanco paints, Rustoleum #7737-830 Satin Spruce Green was the color usually recommended for the 1949-51 Elgins. That color may be discontinued now, so some folks use Rustoleum Hunter Green or Forest Green but those are darker than the original Elgin color.

        I’m sure an Elgin expert can weigh in on this.

          THe Spruce green is still available at Lowes, Home Depot and possibly Wallmart.

                Outstanding, looks great. A very close match to the factory original color. After posting my response about the Spruce Green last night, I happened to see it in my local hardware store this morning. Glad to see it was available again as I know it had been discontinued several years ago.
