Thank you to those who contributed in the my last post regarding the removal of said Elto ace flywheel. Fun stuff.
      I have a new question.
On this particular flywheel I notice a Bakelite disc at the top inside portion of the wheel. Am I correct in supposing I may have a *GASP* Johnson flywheel? The disc looks like what is found on other johnsons I have worked on with the carbon brush thingies.
Does anyone know if this flywheel will work if it’s really a Johnson flywheel? It fits the timer well, and even has the three dimples for the rope sheave.
Or, has my imagination got the better of me and it’s supposed to be like this?
      Thanks, Guys!
Ps: I have not any spark

I’ve heard of flywheels being switched around before with good results and that’s probably what happened to yours. Now you have a real Eltoish Johnnyrude! They crack easy if over torqued and possibly that’s what happened to your original one.

Here’s some pics of the flywheel on my ’40 4351 Ace. The number cast into it is 71D1545.

This motor never sparked either when I got it but cleaning/polishing the points and replacing the bad original cap with an Orange Drop got it running again.

Aha…. Johnnyrude…. The term often seen in these forums, but never •explained•
Yes, it would be an Eltoish Johnnyrude at that…. I will be sure to report the spark situation once the points are clean, and if the condenser was replaced. Sure is an oily one…..
            Thank you again…..
