Hi all, what can be used as a substitute for part # 171089, the gland packing that goes around carb needle.
When I cleaned the carb, it looked like cotton string? Did OMC use string back in the day?
      Thanks,
      Bob D

Here is the factory parts book …

The needle valve packing is carried by OMC/BRP as number 0171089 – see

        http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_search.php?part_num=0171089&x=10&y=5

It also may be fashioned out of heavy gasket material. Some use Teflon plumbers caulk, some use "O" rings.
        . . . . . . . 😉

          Thanks Garry,
          You always have great info!!
Looked on Marine Engine, checked their website but kinda worried about only 1 left. Last time I ordered some Mercury 6HP KD 4 gaskets from them with 2 left, it turned out the computer inventory didn’t match what was on the shelf.
          Thanks,
          Bob D

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
