      Hello,

I have an Elto Mate which has a broken / sheared off fuel strainer plug (part number 133488).

The plug had sheared off at its base, and most of its thread is still stuck in the carburetor. The strainer metal screen (part number 121180) is also still stuck in the carburetor.

Obviously this is a difficult situation (I bought the engine in this condition without knowing this issue).

The strainer plug is the same part used in the Pal engines. Any one know of a replacement one available for sale or any ideas on how to fix the problem? I don’t think it will be easy for me to remove the remnant broken thread from the carb body. The strainer screen seems to be in proper place and functioning well, so I am thinking of leaving it in place and somehow sealing the bottom of the remnant of the strainer plug / strainer.

Also, any source for the tiller handle clamp for the Cub? I have a Mate and want to run the engine without the shroud, as in the Cub.

      Thank you in advance.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Thank you Tubs. Very helpful suggestions.
I will try to get the old broken strainer out and will check back with you next month if I have not found a replacement one yet. Meanwhile I plugged the area with an M6 12mm screw and a washer which secured rubber seals over the strainer. The M6 screw snugs perfectly into the bottom of the strainer opening. I have attached pictures for reference and clarification. It’s not a perfect fix, but a temporary one.
As you mentioned, I do have a loose mixture screw. Thanks for the warning about the over tightening of the packing gland nut. I will be replacing the old packing gland with a new one from MarineEngine.com
I am ordering the tiller clamps from Art as you recommended.
I am lucky that both my Pal and Mate engines run and don’t have electrical problems.
Do you have any recommendation on the fuel / oil mixture ratio? My Pal is in almost new condition, so very little wear, my Mate appears to have had normal use and wear.
Thank you again for your advise.

Thank you Bob for the information.

I have contacted Art DeKalb (adekalb@a-znet.com) for the tiller brackets.

I will contact Doug Penn (theoldoutboard@gmail.com) for the strainer plug.

              Regards, Pejman

Thank you Tubs for the recommendation on the oil mixture and the info on the crank shaft bearing seal. I did not realize that these engines are so sensitive to the bearing seal wear.

                  Regards, Pejman
