      Hello:

I have attached a YouTube video showing how the points aren’t closing correctly. The “pawl” with the “hook” does not seem to be engaging the cam to momentarily close the points. I have the points set to 0.008. It kind of looks (to me) like the cam that the hooked pawl is supposed to hit is warn to the point that contact is not being made. I don’t see any adjustment for this nor am I sure that that is the issue.

Can you please review this and tell me what is going on and how to fix it.

      Thank you for your help.

There seems to be a lot of tension on the spring that opens the points.  It should take very little effort to close them.  Also, test it with the cam in place and you’ll see that the pawl doesn’t hit the cam until the return trip.

Thank you Tom. It does take very little to close the points. I’m confused tho. The cam is in place and the pawl doesn’t contact the cam on either forward or return trip.

Can you give me more detail?

          Thank you again.

This video will show you how all that stuff
works together to close the points.

Yes Mr. Tubs, I watched that video several times but it does not seem to answer why the pawl is not hitting/moving the cam.

Can you please tell me what could cause that, or am I just missing something?

Take out the points – hold the assembly so gravity
will hold the latch down. Operate the shaft and see
if the latch jumps. If it does it is being hit.
The points look to have been bent.
The point assembly should be just touching the
latch . Pretty much what Tom said.

Well, seems you can’t gently tap on the plate or it will break. Yup, I broke it!

Anyone have a replacement points assy I can buy???

If it will make you feel any better I broke one once.
Putting in a replacement bushing. Wanted to get one
rivet just a little bit tighter.
