I tried installing the the pad today by punch and hammer on the ears
as the motor was mounted in a 2 x 4. I went around and around little
at a time, not getting anywhere. The bronze casting was hard as
rock. Not wanting to break the ears off, I looked up annealing bronze.
Internet sources said to heat dull red and quench in water.
Quenching in water seems to be counter-intuitive, but that’s
what I did, and it worked. Was able to then peen over the ears
      little at a time.

      Prepare to be boarded!

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
