My Rt will start easy and run on engine stand. Put it in a barrel and it fires but won’t run is this the way they work?

With timer set in center the points pop when Knob at a little past 8:00. I can’t turn it fast enough with plugs out for compression test.

OK I will try starting with timer centered today. I seem to have good compression as its hard to pull through TDC.

I agree with Tubs. I’ll add that starting with the timer centred is way too much timing. I’m impressed you can get it to start at all. With that much advance you run the risk of it starting in reverse. Do you have the correct flywheel? Speedster flywheels look the same, but are timed for more advance.

Perhaps we should take a step back. Why don’t you run us through your starting procedure. I find that ELTO’s benefit from a good amount of priming. Rocking the flywheel about 18-24 times before attempting to start is normal.

I never started motor with timer centered , I was commenting where the spark happened with the timer in the center. My instructions on gas tank say set timer left of center but not how much left. I set it over the “L” in Elto.

Tubs I will try your last suggestions Monday , I think I have to rich plugs are black.
